Updated Temecula GWSS monitoring - late January 2026

(Belated) Happy New Year

There have been three rounds of trapping since the last post, over which GWSS activity has remained higher than is typically the case this time of year. A total of 140 GWSS were captured in the late November census, 33 in mid-December, and 64 in late January. At least part of the recent high number of captures is likely attributable to the warm weather the last few weeks, which often encourages greater activity and movement by sharpshooters

41 traps captured at least one GWSS adult over this period, with one trap capturing an average of more than 10, and four additional traps capturing an average of more than 5 sharpshooters. These high capture traps were spread throughout citrus groves in the central portion of the trapping region
