Based on the most recent trapping, GWSS activity in Temecula increased slightly. This is consistent with a Fall peak we get in many years, but also might be in part attributable to unusually warm temperatures the last week or two and a sampling issue due to the loss of some traps this time around
A total of 145 total GWSS 1 smoke tree sharpshooter were collected among the 71 traps recovered. 35 traps captured GWSS, four of which collected a dozen or more. GWSS were primarily found in one main cluster in the central-southern portion of area, with some smaller pockets of GWSS activity in outlying areas
As noted last time, relatively high GWSS counts at this time of year are not necessarily cause for concern because of the high overwinter recovery rate of any vines that become infected this late in the season. Nonetheless, it is worth keeping any eye on late-season GWSS activity as it can be an early indicator of a bigger problem next Spring and Summer
